What am I supposed to write about myself? Really, where do I begin? I suppose a name would be helpful. My name is Amanda, and I write this blog.
I am a former Seattleite currently residing in South Carolina. Let me tell you, moving from Seattle to South Carolina was a culture shock, as well as a weather shock. I’m still not used to this ‘Southern hospitality’ thing, and this magical orb in the sky that locals call ‘the sun.’ Seattle is a pretty cloudy place, in case you haven’t heard the horror stories of the ‘always rainy’ Seattle weather.
I love books. I carried books around with me before I could read, and would sit staring at the pages, longing to read the stories enclosed between those pages. They didn’t even have to be picture books: they could just be normal books for all I cared. I love books. I love the stories, and adventures, and characters, and just stories. I can’t help but love books.
I am a huge geek. I grew up watching Star Trek: Next Generation, Star Trek: Voyager, and Stargate SG1 and Atlantis. In case you don’t know, those are all pretty geeky sci-fi shows. My dad loved sci-fi shows, and I got hooked watching those with him. I now watch a larger variety of geeky shows, and have really passionate knowledge of all of them.
I’m a bit of an extremely shy introvert. That’s why I choose the medium of writing to share my ideas and thoughts with people. Because sometimes, not always, but sometimes, people are hard to deal with, and I just need to step back and not talk to anyone for weeks. So I write. That doesn’t mean that I hate people, or that I can never hang out with groups of people. Neither of those things are true. I just need breaks from people every now and then. People can be really draining.
I’m a Christian. I grew up attending a Reformed Presbyterian church, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’m amazingly blessed to have grown up in a Christian home, among amazing Christian men and women who were wonderful role models and amazingly helpful and loving in times of need. Most importantly, I grew up with a wonderful understanding of the God I believed in, and from an early age I learned about the amazing works of my Savior. He is all we need in any situation. If times are hard, turn to Christ. If times are good, turn to Christ. In all things, times, places, and situations: Christ.
For those of you who love Myers Briggs Personality Typing, I am an INFP. Enjoy that tidbit of information, and use it as you so desire. If it interests you at all. If not, simply ignore this part.
In all, I’m an introverted Christian book nerd and total geek who strives every day to live to God’s glory, knowing that every day I fail, but through the strength of Christ I am able to do all things. Soli Deo Gloria.
